Individuals affected by HIV/AIDS in Louisiana can turn to AIDSLaw of Louisiana, Inc. for legal support. Formed in 1989 to provide free legal services to low-income persons living with HIV and AIDS, AIDSLaw is the only organization in the state dedicated to addressing the legal needs of this affected community.
AIDSLaw believes that people affected by HIV/AIDS have the right to legal services that are appropriate and responsive to their individual needs and those of their loved ones. AIDSLaw is committed to enhancing the control people affected by HIV/AIDS disease have over their own lives, and to improving their access to legal services and the legal system.
In addition to providing legal representation, advice and information to clients, AIDSLaw also conducts regional clinics, implements the "Wills on Wheels" program for non-ambulatory clients in emergency situations, provides technical support for members of the Louisiana Legislature concerning HIV-related legislation and monitors health care for incarcerated person living with HIV that are housed in facilities administered by the Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections.
